Book “Embroidered Shirts of Luhansk Region”

The publication “Embroidered shirts of Luhansk region from the collection of the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine” represents a unique collection of regional artifacts, which is part of the “Fabric and Clothing” storage group of one of the most famous ethnographic museums in Ukraine and one of the largest open‑air museums in Europe.The organizers succeeded in digitizing and scientifically describing over 100 clothing items from the Bilovodsk, Bilokurakin, Kreminsk, Novoaidar, Novopskovsk, Svativ, and Starobilsk districts.As of the beginning of 2025, almost the entire territory of Luhansk region is occupied by Russia (the invasion began in 2014 and escalated in 2022).Thus the presented material is extremely important, as it confirms that these territories were and remain inherently Ukrainian.The book’s authors view it as a strategic goal to thoroughly document and describe the cultural heritage of occupied regions, to prevent the loss of samples if they are physically destroyed by the enemy during the Russian‑Ukrainian war.The book contains detailed photographs of authentic Luhansk shirts, cuts and embroidery patterns.To support the incredible work of researchers, the SVARGA brand created a “Luhanshchyna” clothing capsule, which incorporates several motifs from the book.Publication year: 2025
