A korsetka or kirsetka is a type of traditional women’s bodice (most common in the Dnieper region of Ukraine).
At the back, the bodice features fabric pleats that gradually widen the silhouette from the waist. These pleats are called “whiskers” or “gussets.” The bodice fastens at the top with a hidden button.
The yoke and lapels of the corset are embellished with embroidery featuring an eight-pointed star motif, forming the shape of two overlapping crosses—a symbol of the birth of life.
The hand-embroidered technique on the garment is reproduced using machine embroidery.
