This women’s embroidered dress belongs to “Horodok Stitch” capsules, in which SVARGA’s designers combined various techniques of the ancient Horodok stitch. To recreate these antique patterns, the Gorodok Museum of History and Local Lore provided its exhibits. Among them are vyshyvankas, scarves, bedspreads, and napkins, which date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The embroidery on this shirt features geometric patterns, the “endless knot,” trefoils, and solar and lunar symbols. The design is rendered in a color palette characteristic of Horodok embroidery. The colors include red (which dominates all other colors), white, and blue.
The dress comes with a belt embroidered using the “snake” technique.
Hand-embroidery techniques such as “months,” “ladder,” “snake,” “cobra,” “under the cord,” “half-moons,” “clusters,” and “looped serrations” are reproduced using machine embroidery.
