Men’s vyshyvanka from the “Luhansk Region” capsule collection, created in collaboration with the NGO “World Embroidered shirt Day.”
The pattern is inspired by an embroidered shirt from the early 20th century from the village of Oleksiyivka, which is part of the Shchastya community in Luhansk Oblast.
Traditionally, embroidered shirts from the Luhansk region feature a combination of several techniques used simultaneously. On this vyshyvanka, machine embroidery is used to recreate hand-embroidery techniques: cross-stitch, straight satin stitch, pick-stitch, chain stitch, and shapivka.
The exhibit, which serves as the inspiration for the embroidery, is part of For the book “Embroidered Shirts of Luhansk Region”, which showcases a unique collection of artifacts from the Luhansk region that are part of the National Museum of Architecture and Life in Ukraine’s collection.
