Men’s Embroidered shirt “Red Rue”

Men’s embroidered shirt made of linen and cotton. Fastens with buttons—at the front and on the cuffs.

This shirt was produced in collaboration with the Maria Zankovetska National Academic Theater specifically for the premiere of the play “Chervona Ruta.” The vyshyvanka features a reproduction of the shirt pattern worn by one of the founders of Ukrainian pop music, composer Volodymyr Ivasyuk (pictured inside the theater—  (The actor playing the role of Volodymyr Ivasyuk is Mark Drobot.)

The vyshyvanka pattern is taken from a black-and-white photo from the composer’s family archive. The pattern combines shades characteristic of the stage costumes created by fashion designer Alla Dutkovska. She was the one who, at the time, designed costumes for the ensembles to which Volodymyr Ivasyuk belonged. It is known that Dutkovska drew inspiration primarily from the ornamentation of Bukovina. Therefore, the traditional colors of Bukovinian embroidery—light blue, cherry red, and yellow—were chosen to recreate Volodymyr Ivasyuk’s shirt.
The hand-embroidered pattern was created using machine embroidery.
