Men’s vyshyvanka from the collection “Embroidered Ukraine.”
The Kropyvnytskyi region pattern is reproduced from exhibits at the “Kirovohrad Regional Museum of Local History.” The “Kropyvnytskyi Region” pair combines the patterns of a women’s vyshyvanka from the village of Shamivka and a men’s vyshyvanka from the village of Rozumivka, both dating from the early 20th century.
The main element of the collar ornament on the men’s shirt is a stylized flower, originally rendered in traditional gray and red colors. This shirt is a vivid example of the established tradition of embroidered shirt production in Ukraine during the early 20th century.
The pattern was created using machine embroidery that imitates hand-embroidery techniques.
