Crimean Tatar embroidery is a blend of the embroidery traditions of Eastern peoples and several cultures: Scythian, Ancient Greek, Byzantine, and Turkic.
Traditional embroidered shirts were not part of these peoples’ cultures, so all modern Crimean Tatar patterns are recreated from antique towels from this region.
The embroidery is based on the Crimean Tatar “Ornek” pattern, which is one of the oldest cultural achievements of the Crimean Tatar people and is included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Floral patterns adorn the sleeves, neckline, and chest area of the shirt.
