Embroidered shirts from Bukovina have always been distinguished by the richness of their embroidery. Sleeves, cuffs, the chest area, and the hem—every detail is always meticulously embroidered with patterns. Embroidered shirts from this region are densely decorated with flowers, plants, and small geometric patterns. These motifs are arranged in various ways: in straight or diagonal lines, or in a checkerboard pattern.
Local people have always been very generous in decorating vyshyvankas, so the designs often included elements embroidered with beads, gold, and silver threads.
Bukovinian vyshyvankas always catch the eye with their vivid colors. The patterns feature predominantly bright shades of orange, green, burgundy, blue, pink, brown, light blue, and purple. Due to the variety of colors embroidered using the satin stitch, Bukovinian vyshyvankas are also popularly known as “lyapanky.”
