Women’s embroidered dress from the collection “Embroidered Ukraine.”
The dress’s pattern is reproduced from a shirt from the Romny District of Sumy Oblast. This region is known for embroidery featuring imperfect and asymmetrical designs, resembling handwriting done with a quill pen. Locally, such shirts were called “pysany.”
The original shirt used as a model for this reproduction comes from the private collection of an ethnologist. Khrystyna Shcherbyna.
