The dressβs pattern is reproduced from a shirt from the Romny District of Sumy Oblast. This region is known for embroidery featuring imperfect and asymmetrical designs, resembling handwriting done with a quill pen. Locally, such shirts were called βpysany.β
The original shirt used as a model for this reproduction comes from the private collection of an ethnologist Khrystyna Shcherbyna.
