The pattern is reproduced from a shirt from the Romny District of Sumy Oblast. This region is known for embroidery featuring imperfect and asymmetrical designs, resembling handwriting with a quill pen. Locally, such shirts were called “pysany.”
The original shirt from which this design was recreated comes from the private collection of an ethnologist. Khrystyna Shcherbyna.
