Men’s vyshyvanka from the collection “Embroidered Ukraine.”
The pattern for this vyshyvanka from the Zaporizhzhia region was recreated from a shirt dating from the second half of the 19th century, which was found in the village of Malynivka, Polohivsky District.
The shoulder panels, yoke, bust, and cuffs feature ribbon-like designs of winding rose branches, symbolizing beauty and grace. The roses are arranged in a closed circle in the shape of a wreath, symbolizing the infinity of life. A bouquet of roses is embroidered on the yoke of the vyshyvanka.
The pattern for recreating Zaporizhzhia embroidery was provided by the National Museum of Architecture and Life in Ukraine.
The pattern is created using machine embroidery that mimics hand-embroidery techniques.
