Women’s vyshyvanka from the collection “Embroidered Ukraine.”
The pattern for this vyshyvanka from the Zaporizhzhia region was recreated from a shirt dating from the second half of the 19th century, which was found in the village of Malynivka, Polohivsky District.
The main pattern is located on the sleeves. The shoulder inserts, or “poli,” are rendered in red and black. They feature ribbon motifs, compositions of rose branches, and botanical patterns.
The pattern for recreating Zaporizhzhia embroidery was provided by the National Museum of Architecture and Life in Ukraine.
The pattern is created using machine embroidery that mimics hand-embroidery techniques.
