This women’s vyshyvanka is part of the “Horodok Stitch” capsule collection, in which SVARGA designers combined various techniques of the ancient Horodok stitch. To recreate these antique patterns, the Gorodok Museum of History and Local Lore provided its collection of artifacts. Among them are vyshyvankas, scarves, bedspreads, and napkins, which date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The embroidery on this shirt features geometric patterns, an infinity symbol, and solar and lunar symbols. The design is executed in a color palette characteristic of Horodok embroidery. The colors include red (which dominates all other colors), black, white, blue, and yellow.
Hand-embroidery techniques such as “half-moons,” “ladder stitch,” “snake stitch,” “cobras,” “under the cord,” “half-moons,” “clusters,” and “looped serrations” are reproduced using machine embroidery.
